Boten itself has no operating casinos — gambling has been prohibited in the SEZ since 2011. But Laos’s wider casino landscape is well-documented and accessible from Boten by rail and road. Important context
Lao nationals are not permitted to gamble at any Lao casino. All Lao casinos are foreign-visitor-only by law. Visitors should check current travel advisories from their home country before visiting, particularly the Golden Triangle SEZ which has been the subject of US Treasury sanctions and various international press investigations.
Boten itself does not permit gambling. The 2016 Boten Beautiful Land SEZ concession explicitly excludes casino operations. Visitors looking for a non-gaming destination on the China-Laos border — railway, mountains, duty-free shopping, cross-border food — will find Boten ideal. Visitors specifically looking for casino entertainment should plan onward travel to one of the three operating venues above.
